Each beautifully-appointed tented suite is furnished with an option oftwo single beds or a super king-sized bed draped with a mosquito net, an en-suite bathroom with shower, and a large sliding door which opens onto a raised wooden verandah overlooking the majestic river scenery. Additional facilities include air-conditioning, coffee and tea making amenities, a hairdryer, digital safe, and access to AC power (220 volts).

As a family-friendly establishment, four of the twelve suites at Thakadu River Camp are family units. The family units each provide the same features as the standard two- sleeper suites plus an extra queen-size sleeper couch suitable for junior guests aged 12 years or younger. A cot is available for infants under two years by prior arrangement.

The wood-and- thatch main camp at Thakadu is located between the Groot Marico River and one of its tributaries and is decorated in the same contemporary Afro-centric style evident in the tented suites. Its prominent use of natural materials – like stone, wood, and metal – and rich textures serves to highlight the down-to- earth African hospitality and personal service you can expect to enjoy during your stay at Thakadu.

Here you will find an open-plan lounge, dining, and reception areas as well as a mini- conference room, and a safe. The River Camp’s relaxed bar and pool zone is the ideal spot to laze away another glorious afternoon in this welcoming wilderness haven.

There is also a firelit Boma where fine traditional fare is served under balmy star-filled skies as well as a Lapa set within a forest glade from where you can drink in the magical views of the slowly meandering river and the landscape beyond. Thakadu River Camp also has the capacity to cater intimate nuptial ceremonies.

Naturally, Thakadu’s outdoor activities are the highlight of a visit to this spectacular Madikwe-based River Camp with an itinerary designed to give you ample opportunities to experience this Big Five Reserve’s exceptional diversity of fauna and flora.

Adventures include sunrise and sunset game drives in open safari vehicles, first-rate birding trips, interpretive walking trails, and stargazing, accompanied by highly skilled rangers. For a more exclusive up-front- and-personal encounter, a private 4X4 game- viewing vehicle can be arranged on request.

Due to safety concerns, junior guests under six years are unable to participate in regular game drives. However, Thakadu does offer a dedicated “kiddies game drive” as well providing a babysitting service. And if you’re in the mood for a little self-indulgence, you can book a revitalising massage treatment in the privacy of your tent or viewing deck.

However, you chose to spend your time, an excursion to Thakadu River Camp is bound to satisfy your desire to get in touch with the great outdoors without sacrificing on all the mod cons.

Thakadu River Camp is an ecotourism partnership between the Molathedi Community, African Hotels and Adventures, and North-West Parks which means the Molathedi Community enjoy substantial benefits as a result of this partnership.
