The Royal Madikwe can accommodate a maximum of 14 guests in five beautifully- appointed suites. Inspired by the breathtaking natural landscape, each suite blends organic textures and colours with contemporary design, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of the Madikwe bushveld.

The Luxury Double, Luxury Twin, and Honeymoon suites can each sleep two guests while the Royal Villa has two separate bedrooms, making it suitable for families with up to three children. The Emperor suite, which is set on the second level of the Lodge Clubhouse, is ideal for families with younger children.

In keeping with its five-star status, every suite offers a full complement of amenities including free WiFi, an iPod docking station, a safety deposit box, hairdryer, air- conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, a fully stocked minibar, velour bathrobes, and slippers. As well as a selection of premium quality liquid soap, bath foam, bath salts, hand and body lotion, shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. Further to these fabulous amenities, the Emperor and Royal Villa suites have an HD TV and DVD player with a choice of satellite channels.

The Luxury Double Suite
This freestanding suite is positioned parallel to a regularly frequented game path. Placed to ensure your privacy and magnificent views of the adjacent terrain and the mountains in the distant this romantic suite is perfect for couples in search of a peaceful retreat.

The Luxury Double Suite boasts a king-sized four poster bed draped in a mosquito net, a wood fireplace, en-suite bathroom with indoor/outdoor rain showers and a generous bathtub. The spacious viewing deck, complete with comfortable outdoor seating and an enticing plunge pool is just the spot for soaking up the Madikwe sunshine all year round.

The Luxury Twin Suite
Like the Luxury Double suite, this lavish freestanding suite is built to optimise your privacy as well as your opportunities to observe the resident wildlife passing by on their way to the nearby waterhole. This versatile suite can easily be converted into a double for couples, friends travelling together, or families with older children.

The Luxury Twin Suite features extra length ¾ beds with mosquito nets, a wood fireplace, an en-suite bathroom with indoor/outdoor rain showers, and opulent bathtub. The expansive viewing deck, furnished with plush sun loungers is the ideal place to unwind and take advantage of the utter tranquility alongside your private plunge pool.

The Honeymoon Suite
This intimate freestanding suite is situated directly across from the Lodge waterhole which is a favourite drinking spot for the resident bird- and wildlife. As its name suggests, this sumptuous suite is designed for couples celebrating their honeymoon, anniversary or simply looking to enjoy a special hideaway.

The Honeymoon Suite is fitted with a spectacular four-poster bed draped in percale linen and mosquito netting, a wood fireplace, an en-suite bathroom with indoor/outdoor rain showers, and an over-sized bathtub. Take in the spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness from the privacy of the elevated sun deck which features a refreshing plunge pool and comfortable outdoor seating.

The Emperor Suite
This sophisticated two-bedroom suite is conveniently located on the second level of the Lodge Clubhouse and suited to families with younger children.

The Emperor Suite has a spacious master bedroom and a children's bedroom, separated by an elegant sunken sitting area. The adjacent TV lounge, graceful dining space, and additional bathroom, equipped with a rain shower, further serve to create an elite home-away- from-home furnished every imaginable creature comfort.

The master bedroom features an extra length king-size bed fitted with mosquito netting and luxurious percale linen, an en-suite bathroom with an open-air rain shower, and a deluxe bathtub while the children’s bedroom comes complete with double bunks.

With its captivating vantage of the diverse bird- and wildlife frequenting the Lodge waterhole, a stay in The Emperor Suite will no doubt be a high point of your African safari adventure.

The Royal Villa
This extravagant two-bedroom villa has been constructed with small groups of friends travelling together and families with up to three children in mind.

The Royal Villa offers a master bedroom and a second bedroom divided by a dining area and kitchenette all of which open onto a raised wooden deck that boasts a plunge pool, a cosy outdoor dining space, and plush sun loungers. The library and TV lounge can be found on the second level and lead to another viewing deck.

The master bedroom includes an ornate four-poster bed draped in mosquito netting, a wood fireplace, en-suite bathroom with both indoor/outdoor rain showers, and a lavish bathtub while the second bedroom is equipped with twin beds, mosquito nets, as well as en-suite bathroom with an indoor rain shower and bathtub.

This extravagant villa is positioned to afford guests ultimate seclusion and spectacular views of the Lodge waterhole and the landscape beyond, making it an ideal haven for a memorable wilderness escape.

When booking the Royal Villa in conjunction with another suite, the Lodge will include a dedicated game drive vehicle as an added luxury ensuring guests the flexibility to enjoy an exclusive safari experience.

The Royal Madikwe Safari Lodge is also available for booking on an exclusive-use basis, making it the ideal venue for an intimate wedding ceremony, or to commemorate a special occasion with friends and family.

The Clubhouse of the Royal Madikwe continues the refined contemporary Afro-centric style found in the suites. Here you will find a welcoming lounge, dining area, TV sitting room with DSTV, library, well-stocked wine cellar, and indoor and outdoor bars.

The Royal Clubhouse gives onto several broad decks from where you can take in the sweeping views and verdant greens of the mighty Leadwood and Marula trees and lush surroundings. Or laze away another splendid afternoon alongside the tranquil infinity pool as you drink in the waterhole panorama. There is also a Boma where you can gather with fellow guests for a fireside gourmet meal made all the more special by the soundtrack of the ethnic choir.

If you’re in the mood for a more formal dining experience, the graceful indoor dining area with its crystal and chandeliers will no doubt meet with your favour. Prepared with the personal preferences of guests in mind the cuisine is cosmopolitan yet wholesome. Inspired by Africa's diverse cultures, meals are created using only the freshest local produce, complemented by top South African wines.

Being a family-friendly Lodge, children of all ages are welcome at Royal Madikwe. While youngsters aged five or under are not permitted on game drives, a one-hour nature ramble can be arranged for them.

What’s more, Royal Madikwe provides a fun-filled adventure program to keep the little ones entertained and grow their enthusiasm for the great outdoors, including arts and crafts, face painting, T-shirt painting, African beading lessons, animal spotting, treasure hunts, storytelling, and baking sessions.

Adventure activities for adults and teenagers aged 16 and older include early morning and sunset game drives and guided bush walks led by experienced rangers and tailored around guests’ interests as well as stargazing and the chance to be involved in the “Conservation for A Cause” program.

The suggested route from Johannesburg is via Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Derby, Koster, Swartruggens and Zeerust.
  • From Johannesburg head north west on R24 to Magaliesburg
  • Once in Magaliesburg, follow Route 509 to Derby, Koster and Swartruggens
  • From Swartruggens follow the N4 “Toll Road” to Zeerust
  • Once in Zeerust, turn right at Gabarone/Madikwe signs on Route R49.
  • Pass the Abjaterskop Gate (first entrance to Madikwe), 7Kms before the Wonderboom gate
  • Enter Madikwe Game Reserve at the Wonderboom gate, 97Km north of Zeerust

The Royal Madikwe offers luxurious accommodation on a per person sharing basis to a maximum of 14 guests in 5 beautifully appointed suites. Please enquire with our reservations team regarding the option of Exclusive Use of the lodge.

A written request is required to proceed with a reservation. A reservation will be held as provisional for a maximum of 10 days only if requested in writing and confirmed via return e-mail with a provisional reference number. No provisional booking will be held for last minute requests within 14 days of arrival.

A minimum of 2 nights stay is required for all bookings in both the Non-Peak and Peak Period, unless otherwise confirmed in writing. A deposit of 50% of the total invoiced amount is required to secure a reservation and must be paid within 10 days of accepting the quote. A deposit made to guarantee a reservation is non-refundable and once the deposit has been received, the client is liable for cancellation fees. Full and Final payment is due 4 weeks prior to the date of arrival.

A private vehicle for game drives is now offered when booking the Royal Villa in conjunction with another suite (it can be any other suite).

Cancellations are only effective on receipt of written notification.

All rates quoted for both accommodation and transfers are valid at the time of booking, but until such time as full and final payment has been received, the price is subject to change without prior notice.

In the event of premature departure the full extent of the stay, as originally booked and confirmed, will be charged.
In the unlikely event of there being an unscheduled postponement of a reservation caused by bad weather, strikes or any other matter beyond our control, it is understood that expenses incurred will be for the client's account.

Please enquire about the possibility of an earlier check in if required. No check in’s will be accepted before 12h00- should you require an even earlier check in than 12h00, an additional night will be charged prior to the day of arrival and is dependent on availability at the time of enquiring.
Check out time is strictly 11h00.
Please enquire about the possibility of a later check out if required. Check outs later than 14h00 will not be available for guests departing on a Private Charter or Scheduled flight.

Children of all ages are welcome at Royal Madikwe!

Children under the age of 2 years stay for free in a cot when sharing with 2 adults in a Luxury Suite.
Creating triple suites in a Luxury Suite or adding an additional child to a Family Suite will be subject to availability based on occupancy.
Children under the age of 5 years are not permitted on the scheduled game drives, however, a 1 hour kiddie’s bumble can be arranged at the lodge and is dependent on availability at the time of enquiring.
Children under the age of 16 are not permitted on Bush Walks.
Children’s Activities (Daily between 12h00 – 13h00)
A complimentary fun filled program created just for your little ones to keep them entertained and excited about their adventure at Royal Madikwe. With T-shirt painting, Doughnut decorating, Animal tracking, Face painting, Arts and crafts, African beading, and Storytelling, they will have endless fun to look forward to!


Royal Madikwe is easily accessed by daily shuttle flights from (OR Tambo) Johannesburg International Airport to Madikwe Game Reserve Western Airstrip. Approximate flight time is 1 hour. Guests will be transferred from the Western Airstrip in an open vehicle to Royal Madikwe at no extra cost – approximately 25 minute drive.

Private Charters can be arranged for a more luxurious experience and includes a meet & greet facility whereby guests will be escorted off international flights through customs/immigration. Flight times are reasonably flexible to suit guests’ requirements.


Alternatively, a road transfer can be arranged to transfer guests to/from Royal Madikwe. Approximately 5 hours’ drive from Johannesburg or 3 hours from Sun City. Please enquire for transfers from other destinations.

As from 01 June 2015, all persons under the age of 18 years of age, traveling to/from South Africa are required to produce an UNABRIDGED BIRTH CERTIFICATE indicating the biological parents of the minor. In the case where only one parent is travelling with the child, a consent from the other parent in the form of an affidavit, is required.  Airlines will be  forced to refuse travel to persons under the age of 18 not in possession of these documents.
