Jaci's Tree Lodge | Madikwe Game Reserve

4 Star Madikwe Game Reserve image

Jaci's Tree Lodge lies tucked away in the canopy of trees on the banks of the Groot Marico River which flows along the eastern border of Madikwe Game Reserve.

As its name suggests, this secluded boutique Lodge rests high above the forest floor on a structure of raised wooden stilts, interconnected walkways, and platforms designed to blend harmoniously with the spectacular riverine terrain.

This makes for fantastic birdwatching and gives guests a unique perspective on the resident wildlife that frequent the indigenous woodlands. Due to its architecture, however, Jaci’s Tree Lodge isn’t suitable for small children, but kids aged 13 years and older are welcome.

Jaci’s Tree Lodge offers guests a choice of eight twin-occupancy Treehouse Suites, custom-built from a combination of gum poles and African rosewood and exquisitely done out in Jaci’s trademark vibrant colours and decidedly Afro-centric décor, delivering a feast for the senses.

Each Treehouse Suite features a king-sized bed, cosy lounge area, large stone bath, and outdoor shower with concertina sliding glass doors that open onto a suspended viewing deck. Air conditioning and a ceiling fan ensure you stay cool and comfortable no matter what time of year you are visiting. Plus, you have the services of a private chef for the duration of your stay.

The main guest hub at Jaci’s Tree Lodge is the heart of this welcoming bushveld haven. With its authentic Afro-centric style and focus on serenity, the main lodge is the ideal spot to beat a retreat from the summer heat or relax fireside on chilly winter evenings. Gather in the fully-stocked bar to watch the sun set on another glorious day in paradise. Or feel free to browse the curio shop for a memento of your treetop safari getaway.

Come mealtimes, enjoy the freshly prepared delectable dishes for which Jaci's chefs are famed. As Jaci’s Tree Lodge encourages fireside starlit dining as often as possible, dinners are usually served around under the starry night skies in the outdoor Boma area, weather permitting. Brunches and high teas are served in the indoor dining area direct from the open-plan kitchen.

A trip to Jaci’s Tree Lodge means no shortage of exciting opportunities to discover the incredible biodiversity of Madikwe Game Reserve. These include twice-daily game drives, and night drives with a focus on astronomy plus guided walking trails in the company of the Lodge’s expert rangers. For a more up-close- and-personal encounter with the local bird- and wildlife, a visit to the submerged Terrapin Hide which is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Guests who are passionate about photography will be pleased to learn that Jaci’s Tree Lodge provides top quality photographic gear for rent. The Lodge also caters to avid wildlife enthusiasts with more specialised wilderness safari options, namely birding, photographic, and conservation safaris, all led by professionals renowned for their expertise.

For a uniquely romantic bushveld experience, you can book an overnight retreat in the four-poster starbed above the small hide which overlooks the watering hole and wetland area a short walk from the main lodge.

When it comes to enjoying some downtime, head to the crystal-clear swimming pool for a refreshing dip. Alternatively, you can get your pulse racing with a workout in the small on-site gym. Or pamper yourself with the range of wellness therapies – from full body to Indian head, back and shoulder, and foot massages – available at the Masala Spa. And if you’re looking for an out-of- this-world venue for your wedding, or to renew your marriage vows, celebrate your anniversary, or host an engagement party, the dedicated staff at Jaci's Tree Lodge will ensure your festive occasion goes off without a hitch.

Safari game drives take place when the likelihood of sightings is at its highest early morning and late afternoon. Winters are dry and evening temperatures may drop to 0°C, while the wet summers are characterized by daily highs of up to 38°C. Game drives take into account these shifts in temperature, to ensure that guests are in no discomfort while out on a drive.

The morning drive leaves after a light breakfast at first light, while the later drive usually departs around 15h00 to 15h30, depending on the season. Each drive lasts for three-and-a-half hours on average, but if a spectacular or unusual sighting is made, it could last longer.
